Rebecca Wanzo is an Associate Professor of Women, Gender and Sexuality Studies at Washington University in St Louis, Missouri. She is the author of The Suffering Will Not Be Televised: African American Women and Sentimental Political Storytelling (SUNY Press, 2009) and the forthcoming The Content of Our Caricature: African American Comic Art and Political Belonging (NYU Press, April 2020).
Professor Wanzo’s research interests include African American literature and culture, critical race theory, feminist theory, the history of popular fiction in the United States, cultural studies, theories of affect, and graphic storytelling.
Barbara Brandon-Croft is best known for creating the comic strip, Where I'm Coming From, and for being the first nationally syndicated African American female cartoonist.
Brandon is an alumna of Syracuse University's College of Visual and Performing Arts. She has previously worked as a fashion and beauty writer for Essence magazine. Her illustrations have appeared in Essence, The Village Voice, The Crisis, and MCA Records.
Bianca Xunise is an illustrator and designer based out of Chicago, Illinois. Her work is motivated by her identity as a Black woman, but also deals with the complexities of her plight including anxiety, overall wellness, feeling like an oddball, and humor. Since childhood, she’s been drawing personal stories. Her work can be found on sites such as The Nib and Hello Giggles.
